Milwaukee house uninhabitable after fire near 20th and North

Milwaukee, WI – June 24, 2025 – A residential fire that erupted on Sunday has left a house near the intersection of 20th Street and North Avenue uninhabitable, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a blaze on the first floor of the one-and-a-half-story structure.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an active fire and immediately commenced suppression efforts. Initial concerns about individuals being trapped inside the dwelling were quickly allayed after a thorough search of the premises confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated.

Officials have reported that there were no injuries to either civilians or firefighting personnel. The rapid response and efficient work of the Milwaukee Fire Department were instrumental in containing the blaze and preventing its spread to adjacent properties.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the home has been deemed unsafe for occupancy. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Milwaukee Fire Department’s Investigation Unit in conjunction with the Milwaukee Police Department.

It has not yet been confirmed if the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents.
